There’s nothing like freshly made churros, fried to golden perfection. And even more delicious dipped in chocolate sauce!
Churros
Ingredients
Dough
1 cup water
4 Tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
2 Tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg
Vegetable or Canola oil for frying
Cinnamon sugar coating
1/2 cup sugar
1-2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Chocolate sauce:
1 cup of chocolate chips or chocolate, chopped
½ cup heavy cream
Directions
Heat oil in a large pot to 350 - 375 degrees F.
In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add in flour and stir constantly with a wooden spoon until dough comes together. Add in the vanilla and egg and continue to stir until the dough forms into a ball.
Transfer the dough into piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
Working in batches, carefully pipe the dough directly into preheated oil using scissors or knife to cut to desired length. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and drain on paper towels.
Combine sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and roll the churros in the mixture. Serve with chocolate sauce.
Chocolate sauce: Place the chocolate in a small bowl. Warm the heavy cream in a small saucepan, being carefully not to boil. Pour the cream over chocolate and let sit for 1 minute, then stir to combine.
