Host a Hibachi Event at Home
Hosting hibachi at home brings the hibachi experience directly to the guests. Everyone gathers around the grill while the chef prepares the meal right in front of you, making it a fun option for birthdays, celebrations, or simply getting a group of friends together.
I recently experienced private hibachi dinners in different settings, from a backyard gathering to dinner on the beach. While the locations and setups were different, both showed how easily the experience can be adapted to different spaces.
BEHIND THE PLATE
One of the advantages of a hibachi event is the variety. Guests can typically choose from different proteins, with vegetables, rice, and other accompaniments prepared on the grill.
Depending on the menu, selections might include steak, chicken, shrimp or lobster. For a larger group, having several protein options makes it easy for guests to choose what they prefer while everyone still shares the same dining experience.
With the food prepared right in front of you, the cooking becomes part of the entertainment. The experience may include a fire show, fun knife skills, and even sake shots with guests.
BEHIND THE EXPERIENCE
Private hibachi services can vary quite a bit, so one of the most important things to consider is what is included with the setup.
Some services may provide the complete experience, including tables, chairs, linens, place settings, and the hibachi cooking station. Others may primarily provide the chef, grill, food, and cooking experience, leaving the host responsible for tables, chairs, linens, and other details.
Before booking, ask exactly what is included and what you’ll need to provide. Also consider the amount of space needed for the grill and guest seating, along with any requirements the company has for the cooking area.
Once the setup is taken care of, hibachi makes entertaining relatively simple. Guests stay gathered around the table, the cooking provides its own entertainment, and the host gets to spend more time enjoying the gathering.
